SiriusXM today announced SiriusXM Podcasts+, a new subscription available directly in Apple Podcasts that includes some of the most popular shows on the SiriusXM Podcast Network.
The service starts on August 5 with ad-free listening at $5.99/month or $44.99/year. It is aimed at attracting new listeners to SiriusXM.
Much of SiriusXM Podcasts+ will also be available to existing SiriusXM subscribers directly through the SiriusXM app.
“This allows us to reach new listeners, increases value for creators looking to engage fans, and facilitates our ability to add premium content to our flagship SiriusXM app and enhance the value of our core subscription,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer at SiriusXM.
SiriusXM reported a significant decline of 359,000 self-pay subscribers in its first quarter this year. It also lost 347,000 subscribers in the same period of 2023, said Radio Ink.
The company also reported its second quarter results, today, losing 100,000 self pay subscribers with a total of 33 million subscribers.
At launch, the new SiriusXM Podcasts+ will include: “SmartLess,” and select shows from the SmartLess Media slate; the Freakonomics Radio Network, including its flagship show; “Last Podcast on the Left” and select shows from the Last Podcast network; as well as “99% Invisible,” “The Joel Osteen Podcast,” “Busted Open,” “The Bonfire with Big Jay Oakerson and Robert Kelly,” “Literally! with Rob Lowe,” and “Andy Cohen’s Daddy Diaries Podcast.” Additional podcasts are expected to join the subscription offering later this year.
Greenstein said, “This new offering gives podcast enthusiasts the chance to subscribe to premium content from some of the most popular podcasts on our network, right through Apple Podcasts.”
The Wrap reported that the subscription may expand to other platforms in the coming weeks.
