An innovative company called Ottopia, is offering a new remote chauffeur service.
Once a driver initiates the service, he may exit the car, command the vehicle to drive to the nearest parking garage, and summon the car when needed.
The car seems to be driving autonomously, but really there is a human in a remote office at a kind of simulator, remotely driving the car.
The technology is called Remote Driving as a Service (RDaaS). Instead of paying a chauffeur tens of thousands of dollars, the service can cost around $3,000 per year plus a few hundred dollars in hardware for the car.
MotorTrend says Ottopia has been testing the service for over six years in 20 different cities.
