Garmin announced two new JL Audio MediaMaster marine/powersports source units.
Shipping now, the MediaMaster 55 has an LCD display and built-in controls to mount at the helm, while the new MediaMaster 55-HR is a hide-away unit controlled by a separate multifunction display. The MM55-HR ships in August.
The MM55 has a new design with a silicone button pad and new rotary knob. The 2.8-inch color LCD display shows larger icons and simplified menus.
Both source units have three zones of preamp outputs with a dedicated subwoofer output for each zone. The built-in amplifier can drive multiple speakers per channel.
The new units use Bluetooth Low Energy to connect to a free MediaMaster Remote App in a smartphone. Or the source units work with a wireless remote controller (MMR-25W). Using the NMEA 2000 network, the source units can also be controlled with a compatible MFD.
Both models offer Bluetooth streaming, AM/FM tuner, USB and Aux inputs.
The MM55-HR hide-away unit can be mounted in a variety of areas around the boat or vehicle, such as inside the console, storage lockers, and other concealed compartments.
The MediaMaster 55 has a suggested retail price of $399.99 and the MediaMaster 55-HR has a suggested retail price of $349.99.
