Introducing the Headrest Safe

The Headrest Safe

Maybe you have heard of The Headrest Safe, which launched in April. It is a replacement headrest with a built in safe for valuables, fire arms, cash and other items.

It can swap with any headrest using a two-post mounting system, and it has a locking mechanism so thieves can’t simply pull out the full headrest.

The Headrest Safe uses a six digit code or fingerprint recognition and it comes with a backup hard key.  If all that fails, the users can power up the lock using AAA batteries and plug in a USB or it will use the last code to open.

A new version of the safe is removable.  Called the “Slide,” the lock box slides out and has an off-shoulder strap for carrying.  It is compliant in states where handguns must be securely stored during transport out of your vehicle.  It is also TSA compliant for plane travel.

Two reps, MDS-Rep, FL and B&B Sales, TX represent the product for the car audio industry.  The company is open to hiring additional reps.

Todd Pearson, Revenue Director for The Headrest Safe Company, said of the target customer, “We originally thought it would be the conceal and carry fire arms crowd, but we’ve seen a lot of people who go to gyms. It’s a big place for theft.  Once they see you go in, thieves know you will be inside for an hour.  If someone has a watch or phone or wallet [left in the car] they are vulnerable to a smash and grab.”

Jeep owners are also an audience as there are few places to store anything in a Jeep.

Law enforcement is another customer as they are required to have a storage location in their cruisers for fire arms.  Ambulances are required to have a place to secure Class 1 medications

The Headrest Safe comes in 8 colors and in leatherette or cloth.  It is constructed of 18 gauge steel with a 16 gauge door. The lock is steel and the safe is covered in OE grade foam.

Users can purchase one headrest safe at $399 Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) or a pair (including a companion headrest without the safe) for $499.  The Slide is $499 or $599 with a companion headrest.

The patented product was developed by Irving Meisler, a Jeep owner who wanted a place to store his fire arm as his 3 year old would crawl around the vehicle.

The Headrest Safe is sold on the Internet at MAP and The Headrest Safe Company is the only seller on Amazon so MAP is maintained, said Pearson.

  1. That’s a nifty product. Saw an opening in the market and built something cool to fill it.

Don’t end up like Alfred Anaya, though! The DEA loves a scape goat if the secret compartments are used for nefarious things.
