Update: (Please scroll to the end for celebration of life information for Todd).
Todd Ramsey, a brilliant audio technician and friend to many in the industry, tragically passed away October 6, after a long battle with cancer. He was 54.
Todd was a consultant for the Mobile Electronics Certified Professional, MECP, program for 22 years and ran his Ramsey Consulting Group for 30 years. At one point he was Editor of Mobile Electronics Magazine.
His knowledge of car audio and electronics was far superior to most, and yet he freely gave of his time to help so many in the industry. To me, he generously spent hours explaining technology or discussing a 12 volt issue he was passionate about.
His death was followed by an immediate outpouring on social media for the friendship and help Todd gave to so many.
His dear friend and collaborator Bryan Schmitt of Mobile Solutions and founder of the MasterTech Expo, said “Todd’s amazing spirit and contagious enthusiasm left a lasting mark on all of us who had the privilege of knowing him. He had an uncanny ability to inspire and educate, and his friendship was something we will forever cherish.”
Gary Biggs, who help found AudioFrog, said, “…The one thing I would like to say is it did not matter if I saw Todd one day ago or one year ago. We were able to pick up conversation as if we were just talking minutes ago. Todd always lit up the room. An amazing guy gone way too soon.”
Josh Landau, owner of JML Audio, MO, said, “I met Todd about 20 years ago at KnowledgeFest, [and] attended the first Mobile Solutions class with him and Bryan in 2006…Todd was an amazing talent, wealth of knowledge, and industry advocate. He personified what is great about the industry and will be incredibly missed.

Todd is survived by his wife Judy and an industry full of friends.
A celebration of life will be held for Todd on Monday, October 16 hosted by Orca Design & Manufacturing and Mobile Solutions.
His industry friends have overhauled Todd’s E63 AMG Wagon with a new audio system. The car will be given to Todd’s wife, Judy.
The celebration will be located at Homewood Suites Phoenix Tempe Extend Stay Hotel (Hilton.com), 66 S. Rockford Drive, Tempe, AZ, from 6:30 to 9:30pm. A catered taco truck and drinks will be provided.

It’s hard to remember when I first met Todd, but easily over 25yrs ago. I’ll always cherish the long talks and fun times, such as his “Ramsey Experience” at several K-fests throughout the years. Todd was truly one of a kind. Both professionally and personally, he was a passionate, kind and generous person. His legacy will live on through all the lives he touched and his positive influence on our industry. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. God speed my friend, may you rest in peace.
RIP Todd, you were an inspiration to us all. I can only hope that the people attending your celebration of life have on final Todd Ramsey experience in your honor.
I am in the process of listening to Car Audio Fabrication podcast W/Todd as the guest…. I never met the man ( Legend) & I am saddened by his passing….. Evan, Sound Solutions MD
Todd was truly one of a kind. He will be missed. Rest easy Todd.
This is shocking sad news. Todd was always a cheerleader for our industry and our talent, loved to connect the dots and introduce you to sharp people, give you ideas, and shout out your company on social media for what you were doing. He is leaving a legacy with his work on the MECP certification and the number of technicians lives he touched, not to mention attracting kids to the industry. I’d love to see the MECP cert renamed after him in his honor so his legacy lives on in our industry and people talk about him for a long long time.
RIP Todd… You were a true 12v visionary with passion for our industry you will be missed !
Todd was a wonderful human being and will be truly missed. So genuine, so kind, so giving, and always smiling. He would turn “Rocket Science” problems into simple solutions and educate those on how to do so.
Rest in Peace my friend.
God Bless,
Kas Alves, Scosche
Todd, was a great human, he will be missed.
Like many of us, I knew Todd a long time. Years ago, he was doing a project for Mobile Dynamics during the heyday of import performance. He spent several days at our facility as we were hot and heavy in that category from 1997-2004. He would hang out with our technicians during the day and spend evenings with my wife and I, talking through the business aspects of the category and simply enjoying time together. When Todd finished the curriculum, he wrote some very kind words about us in the forward. I always felt it was myself and our team that benefitted the most by having him with us for several days.
Whenever I would see Todd at an event, he would instantly get a big smile on his face and walk towards me. It made you feel special. And that was Todd in a nutshell. Everyone felt special around him and learned something whenever he started talking. Man, I am gonna miss this dude!
So sad. I knew Todd for many years back when he was doing international training for us at Cerwin-Vega. He was a great guy and so knowledgeable. Our industry will miss him and I’ll miss an old friend. Rest in Peace Todd
Such a huge loss for all of us in 12v. Todd was an inspiration to many, and was always more than willing to help and educate any way he could. I haven’t known Todd nearly as long as many others in the industry, but he always made me feel like we were best friends for decades… he had such a positive effect on people, and it was absolutely contagious. RIP Todd, you will surely be missed.
Truly a tragedy – Todd was actually one of those “one-in-a-million” types. He worked hard, and he played hard. And I’m honored to say I got to do some of both of those with him. RIP.
Great smile. Always a positive, can do attitude. Contemplative intellect. A value add leader by example. Todd should rest in peace knowing that he left a mark.
So sad to hear. I haven’t spoken to Todd for many years, but he was always a great guy and looked out for others!!!
Todd was an amazing individual that was always the life of the party. His undeniable passion for the 12V industry inspired and educated us all. Todd was the guy that got me my first job in this business, and I will never forget him. Rest in peace my friend.
Great individual, he will be missed.
What a great guy. Always made you laugh. I’ll miss him.
RIP Todd… You were a great ambassador to the 12 volt industry
