Ford F150 Amplifier Glitch

Some owners of newer Ford F150 trucks and Expedition SUVs are reporting crash-like noises coming from the speakers.

The blaring sound is loud enough to be severely distracting, causing some owners to pull over for fear of driving, reports the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The issue is related to the vehicles’ infotainment amplifier, said a Ford technical service bulletin issued this summer, according to reports.

Drivers complained to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the noise was over 100 decibels, said yahoo!finance.

Ford has released a software fix that “uses the amplifier as a filter to prevent the speaker noise,” said the WSJ.  Drivers can get the update through a dealership or software download.

Ford F150s and Expedition SUVs from 2021-23 model years and 2022 F150 Lightning electric trucks are impacted but most complaints (numbering about 100) are for the 2022 F150.
