Mobile Edge, Lehighton, PA, the 29-year old retailer and Mobile Electronics Magazine Retailer of the Year, has been sold to one of its employees, Ben Tuckett.
Tuckett is the 31-year old Installation Manager and Window Tint Specialist for the shop, which he joined in 2017. Mobile Edge Founder Mitch Schaffer said, “Ben is incredibly talented–the very best installer we’ve ever hired green…he’s very technically oriented. When he installs something we can count on it being out there for the long haul. We’ve never got a call back in six and half years.”
He also cited Tuckett’s work ethic, “He hasn’t called in sick in six and half years.”
Schaffer, who launched a media company 1Sixty8 Media in 2014, will now focus on that venture, except to help Tuckett make the transition from employee to business owner.
For his part Tuckett said he’s always been passionate about car audio.
Mobile Edge started off in 1994 as Safe & Sound. Over time, Schaffer renamed it Mobile Edge.
Warranties and gift cards from the store remain in place, and there are no immediate plans to change Mobile Edge product lines or policies.
Schaffer’s 1sixty8 media provides websites, social media, and other business services to retailers and vendors. It also publishes BestCarAudio.com. “I look forward to spending more time and effort on 1sixty8 media, which keeps me anchored in the car audio business that I’ve loved for the past 30-plus years,” Schaffer said.
