Mercedes ChatGPT in vehicles

Have you ever wanted to look up something while you are driving?  CarPlay won’t let you google answers. Mercedes-Benz will change that in a beta program that puts ChatGPT in select vehicles.

Not only can you carry on conversations with the super-intelligent ChatGPT, but Mercedes is looking into   adding ChatGPT plugins that will allow users to conversationally make restaurant reservations or book movie tickets.

The three-month beta begins today in over 900,000 vehicles in the US running the MBUX infotainment system. Mercedes MBUX users in select models can simply state, “Hey Mercedes, I want to join the beta program” to receive an over the air update. The program uses Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service.

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that is so smart that it can answer complex questions, or even write code or write a business plan for your company. You can use it to look up specific install questions in some cases (for 2021 and earlier information at present).  And while driving, you could ask it questions about your destination, or find out answers to your kids’ questions or just inquire about something you’ve been meaning to look up.

To try out ChatGPT  go to https://platform.openai.com and log in (you can log in with Google or Apple).   Then go to “Playground” and type in a question. See more here.

Participating Mercedes MBUX models include: series A 238, C 118, C 167, C 238, C 253, C 254, C 257, H 247, N 293, R 232, S 213, V 167, V 177, V 295, V 297, W 206, W 213, WV 223, X 167, X 243, X 247, X 253, X 254, X 294, X 296, Z 223 and Z 296.
