ZZ2 said it will enter the electric vehicle accessories market. Its first product will be a portable EV charging unit that will be formally announced in May with a target ship date in early June, said Tiago Sperandio.
The ‘portable’ charger can plug into an everyday wall jack to give your vehicle a partial charge in an emergency. ZZ2 will announce details such as charge levels shortly.
“If you are traveling and there are no charging stations, you can charge your car [partially] over night from your hotel in a regular 110v outlet.”
Typical faster EV wall chargers and charging stations require higher voltages but provide faster charging times.
The portable unit will come with adapters to fit the many types of EVs. Pricing has not yet been announced.
“It’s a brand new market, something we will attack pretty hard,” said Sperandio.
ZZ2 has hired an engineer who will focus on EV products. The company plans to offer other EV accessories in the future.
“I’m pretty sure over the next few months most of the [car audio] shops will have to have a section just for EVs….something they can sell for the car. Some will offer it earlier than others but now BMW, Mercedes, VW, Kia are all coming out with EVs, so that’s something that will soon take place,” Sperandio said.
