Alpine, Alps Alpine North America, said it is aiming at a young audience with a new PrismaLink line of S-Series Preloaded Subwoofer Wedge Enclosures that integrate RGB lighting and linking capability.
The wedge enclosures can be linked for dual, and even quad-enclosure applications in a manner similar to Alpine’s HALO enclosures when used with a linking kit.
“We believe this new line of subwoofer enclosures will not only engage and excite the long-time Alpine fan but attract a younger demographic of customers who are new to aftermarket car audio,” said Mike Anderson, Executive Director at Alps Alpine North America. “The integrated lighting feature enhances the cosmetic appeal of these woofers. The linking feature enables the user to build a bass system for their vehicle step-by-step if they wish, according to their budget.”
The compact wedge shape of the enclosures is built for tight spaces such as behind a seat or in the trunk. The enclosures feature sealed 12-inch (S2-SB12) 10-inch (S2-SB10) and 8-inch (S2-SB8) models that are pre-loaded with next-generation S-Series subwoofers.
The enclosures integrate pre-wired RGB lighting located in the enclosure trim bars. The lighting system offers full color options that are controlled by an RF remote. When used with multi-linked enclosures, the RGB feature is able to connect across the subwoofers.
The enclosures use dual 4Ω voice coils wired in parallel for a 2Ω load and are optimized for Alpine’s S-Series or R-Series Mono-Powered Amplifiers.
The subwoofers use a Carbon Fiber Poly Propylene Cone (CFPP) and a ceramic/polypropylene composite dust cap for a light but rigid subwoofer (for low distortion but high output).
The name PrismaLink is a nod to the word “prisma,” or spectrum of light for the RGB lighting and “link” for the ability to link the enclosures together in a modular system.
The PrismaLink wedge enclosures will ship in March at $399.95 for the 12-inch, $379.95 for the 10-inch and $329.95 for the 8-inch models.
