The long promised holoride VR system, which turns rear seat entertainment into a “theme park-like ride,” is finally available for any car as an aftermarket device.
German-based holoride is a spin-off of Audi. Its gaming device was previously only available in some Audi vehicles. The new system– holoride retrofit –can be added to any car at a cost of about $199 for just the device or $799 for a package with VR glasses.

Holoride works with VR glasses to provide in-car games that are tied into the movement of the car including steering, braking, and acceleration.
The action of the game slows when the car slows or the action shifts left or right depending on which way the car turns. In this way, it reduces motion sickness. It works with holoride games or it can be used with other content.
The new device is about the size of a smart speaker. It attaches to the windshield of the car with a suction cup mounting arm that’s included. It has a built-in battery with about 14 hours of power and there’s a cable to charge the retrofit in the car.
The full retrofit pack includes an HTC Vive Flow headset and 8BitDo Pro2 controller and a one-year subscription to the holoride platform.
Holoride retrofit received a 2023 CES Innovation Award.
