Sony began shipping last week one of its new wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto decks, the model XAV AX-4000 at $599.
It will be joined in two weeks by step up model XAV-AX6000, which adds Maestro capability for retaining key factory features. The XAV-AX6000 also includes includes HDMI and a 3 year warranty, as well as a capacitive screen (versus the XAV-AX4000’s resistive screen) and 5 volt pre amp section at $699.
The XAV-AX6000 is Sony’s first mainstream radio (other than the Mobile ES line) to include wireless CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Maestro capability.
Both models come with 7-inch screens. Both radios let users stream audio over Bluetooth via LDAC at 96 kHz / 24-bit. LDAC allows bit rates up to three times higher than conventional Bluetooth.
The new decks also offer FLAC file playback at up to 24-bit depth and a sampling frequency at 384 kHz.
Built-in digital signal processing (DSP) is included down to 1cm for each of the 5 addressable channels (4 speakers + subwoofer via pre-out).
Other features include 14-band EQ and rear view camera input with adjustable parking guidelines.
