Cerwin Vega Mobile and Diamond Audio announced at CES new 6 x 9 “coaxial subs” designed for motorcyclists who like the fit of 6 x 9’s in their saddle bags, but find they lack sufficient bass.
The new speakers are water-resistant and iPX65-rated, with more low bass output than the traditional 6 x 9, said CVDA, parent to Cerwin Vega and Diamond Audio. The new 6 x 9’s handle frequencies down to 45 Hz, instead of the typical 55 Hz. They also handle 125 watts RMS with a sensitivity of 93.5dB.
Shipping is expected to begin in March at a retail price of $299.
Also new from the CVDA group is a line of Diamond Audio fully submersible mini amplifiers for motorsports vehicles. The Motorsport DXM series is iPX67-rated, so it can be submersed in water for up to 30 minutes. All terminals on the amplifiers are completely sealed.
The line consists of four models including a 1200 watt RMS monoblock amp weighing about 5 pounds. Suggested retail pricing is $499 to $699. Shipping is due around March.
Cerwin Vega is also reintroducing its legacy V Max line of subwoofers (now spelled VMAXX) but with modern features. The line has a new frame, bigger surround, dual layered spider, bigger tinsel leads and a 3-inch black coated voice coil. The speakers use a 140 ounce magnet and come in 6.5-, 8-, 10- and 12-inch sizes. Shipping is due in March at retail prices from $119.99 to $229.99.
