The initial list of 2019 CES Innovation Award winners was announced Thursday by the Consumer Technology Association. The list includes some familiar aftermarket brands and a vast showing of new technologies for autonomous and semi-autonomous cars.
A second round of award winners will be revealed just prior to CES in January, when more companies will officially unveil their products.
The CES Innovation Award honorees this year include Pioneer, Focal, Rydeen and mObridge.
Pioneer took an award for the AVH-W4400NEX AV/receiver–the first car radio to include wireless versions of both CarPlay and Android Auto, combined in one unit.
Focal’s new Utopia M audiophile car audio system took an award for its 3-way active version.
Rydeen’s license plate blind spot system, the BSS2LPBC, won an award as the first of its type to add a backup camera with cross traffic alert.
mObridge took an award for its Harmonize series of car audio DSP/amplifiers with modular interfaces to integrate into vehicle bus networks.
The awards were split into two categories: In-Vehicle Audio/Video and In-Vehicle Intelligence and Self-Driving Technology. A quick look at the winners, especially from the latter category, shows just how competitive and innovative companies have become as we race to the autonomous vehicle.
