VOXX Electronics will display at KnowledgeFest what it calls the first long range remote start-from-a-phone without service fees.

The new Carlink BT Long Range is a Bluetooth based remote start system with a 1 mile range from remote transmitter to the car.

It joins VOXX’s previous Carlink BT model which had a range of only 100 feet.

It works with remote start systems including some models from other remote start makers such as Directed, CompuStar and Fortin.  The system communicates from a smartphone to a small one-button keychain transmitter via Bluetooth, and then to the vehicle using long range LoRa RF technology, extending its operating range to over one mile without any additional fees.

“…Last year we released CarLinkBT to give consumers the opportunity to “test out” telematics without having to invest in a product with monthly or annual fees.  The only limitation was a limited operating range of 100 feet.  With our new offering we have greatly improved on that this year with the introduction of CarLinkBT Long Range with over 1 mile of operating range,” said Aron Demers, Senior Vice President, VOXX Electronics Corporation.

CarLinkBT Long Range will start shipping in September with an MSRP of $149.95.

For those who want unlimited operating range, VOXX is also introducing at KnowledgeFest a 3G cellular based CarLink ASCL6 with one year of free service and annual fees of less than $30 thereafter.  Users can remote start their car from their phone almost anywhere, regardless of the distance in miles and they also get vehicle location services.  The previous CarLink ASCL5 cellular remote start model carried annual fees of $59.00 for basic service and $119.00  for premium service. The new ASCL6 now replaces that model.  It carries a hardware cost of $299.99 MSRP.

VOXX also said it applied for a new patent for a transmitter concept to eliminate the need to carry additional devices on your keychain.  A new credit card thin module with a rechargeable battery was developed to “stick-on” the back of any smartphone device, place inside of a briefcase/purse or place on a keychain to provide two-way functionality to the CarLinkBT smartphone app to lock/unlock and start a vehicle with over one mile of operating range, without any buttons or screens and no monthly or annual fees.
