Alpine Electronics has finally received Apple certification for the first wireless CarPlay deck to work in any car, said several car audio dealers.
Alpine could ship by the end of the month, its new iLX-107 deck, first announced at CES in January. It was originally expected to ship in March but was held up in the CarPlay certification process.
Alpine remains the first and only aftermarket company to announce a wireless CarPlay deck. The iLX-107 automatically launches CarPlay without a cord connection to the radio. It simply recognizes an iPhone in your pocket or purse via a WiFi connection.
The iLX-107 is a mechless deck (no CD/DVD) at a suggested $900. It has a 7-inch screen and AM/FM radio and its mounting depth is 5 7/8-inches (it’s a 1-DIN chassis attached to the back of the bottom half of the 7-inch screen).
It can work with an iDatalink Maestro model to retain factory features such as GM OnStar or Ford SYNC.
The iLX-107 won a CES Innovation Award.
