Here are the 5 best selling car stereo subwoofers and amplifiers so far this year (January through August), according to the NPD Group.
The top selling subwoofer, as measured in dollar sales to consumers, was the JL Audio 12W3V3, followed by the Kicker 11HS8. In third place was the JL Audio Stealthbox, CP212-WOV3.
The top amplifier this year, ranked by dollar sales, was the Alpine KTP445U followed by the Alpine MRV-M500. In third place was the Pioneer GM-A5602.

Another BS data collection study. Again, manufacturers must submit their data. If a company doesn’t submit it will not be taken into consideration. I believe this is a way for JL and Kicker to try a stay relevant in a world that doesn’t care how many patents they have for variations on the same old crap. Car Audio is dying/dead. MOVE ON IF YOU ARE SMART PEOPLE! What does it matter if one manufacturer is at the top of this crap pile which bleeds money?
Not surprised one bit. My store sells all of the models listed above. Even if the information isn’t accurate to the T, it is very reasonable to place them where they’re at.
The reality is there aren’t enough retailers that provide NPD Data however these SKU’s are very popular and do sell well. If you’re a retailer that offers them you know that. If you’re not than you know now that they do in fact sell well and are very popular amoungst a majority of consumers.
“Top” selling car subwoofers? Please? Of the 5 listed 2 are stealth boxes and another is a powered subwoofer which includes amp, enclosure and subwoofer. But what the hell do I know? I thought a subwoofer was just a speaker, a raw driver, a single woofer. Learn something new everyday, i guess?
Their data is collected mainly from POS (scanner) information, e-receipts and consumer interviews in 20 countries. How many independent dealers you know uses a POS system or sends out e-receipts. I don’t think this reflex an accurate picture of our car audio industry.
I call bullspit on these rankings. There’s no way three JL Audio products are in the top 5 as top selling when they’re not sold at the volumes big box stores move product. For every 12W3 sold, there’s 5 Kicker CompS’s sold at Best Buy, Car Toys, etc etc etc.
May be true, but just remember, these are best sellers by dollar volume, not units. So this list will include many of the more expensive popular models.
Car Toys #1 selling raw subwoofer in the higher end brands is JL Audio. Everything listed above can be accounted for in their 50 stores. Especially the Alpine amplifiers.
