Joining ADS, Fortin showed for the first time Tuesday, a remote start system for Volkswagen and Audi vehicles that does not require users give up one of their expensive car keys.
The new TB-VW is an approximate $40 module that taps into one of the transponder wires of VW/Audi vehicles and may be used with a Fortin EVO-ALL data module to remote start a car without the need for a separate remote starter (although it can work with remote starters from many brands), said the company at the MRI Starter Summit in Sturbridge, MA.
“We finally cracked it,” said Fortin’s Alex Messier. VW keys alone can cost between $200 and $300+ so the ability to use a $40 module to enable remote start is far more cost effective.
The TB-VW is expected to ship at the end of the month. It will work with about two dozen VW/Audi car models at that time, with others added “on a weekly basis,” Messier said.
It will have three optional T-harnesses available for VW/Audi models. The unit also lets users control remote start from their factory key by pressing on the lock button three times for start and stop.
