Directed announced it is now offering two new kinds of auto theft protection.
First, it is launching a new OEM shock sensor that comes with a warranty for theft.
The CTP504 shock sensor is designed to be added to cars with basic OEM alarms that only go off when a door is opened. So the sensor turns the factory alarm into a true security system that detects thieves outside of the car.
But it is also adding to that a “content theft protection” plan to the product. So in the case of theft of items inside the car, like a purse or radio and parts in or outside the car like a catalytic converter, airbags, wheels, and spare tires, the user is reimbursed up to $2,500 for up to three years after purchase of the system.
The OEM shock sensor and the warranty protection is available at $99 suggested retail price.
A second product is actually a point of sale $99 theft protection option consumers may buy with the purchase select Viper and Clifford security products. It also gives consumers up to $2,500 coverage for content and parts in and outside of the car for up to three years.
According to FBI crime statistics (2010) there are 2 million content and component thefts from vehicles every year in the US compared to 642,000 vehicle thefts.
For dealers, the protection plan is an added profit center. If a dealer sells 100 a month he can add $100,000 a year to his revenues, said Directed Senior VP Global Retail Sales.
Directed will also supply a counter top display for the new Content Theft Protection options
