NAV-TV launched a new rear view camera solution for the new Mercedes Metris van.
The Metris was introduced in North America in October at a base price of about $29,000. A backup camera is NOT standard and it requires users buy a $1,540 package to upgrade to the camera option.
NAV-TV’s rear camera solution for the 2016 Metris is fully plug and play. requiring no cutting of factory wires or dealership programming, NAV-TV said.
Over 60 percent of back up incidents involve a larger size vehicle such as a truck or SUV, said kidsandcars.org, And blind spots, or areas that a driver cannot see into with mirrors alone, are the main contributing factor to most vehicle accidents under 15 miles per hour.
NAV-TV said, “With the lack of side view and rear view camera assist, the Metris is extremely difficult to operate safely, especially in reverse. Although Mercedes may have ‘missed the bus’ when it comes to standard and available video safety features for the 2016 Metris, fortunately there is now an option to add these potentially life-saving options from NAV-TV.”
The NAV-TV interface does not include the camera. It comes in three trim levels:
- METRIS PRG (SKU# NTV-KIT715): For Metris Vehicles Without a Factory Rear View Camera
- Allows an aftermarket camera to be viewed on the factory color LCD screen automatically while in reverse
- Adds an additional video input that can be activated in any gear (other than reverse) for use with an optional front view, side view, night vision, interior camera or external entertainment source.
- Can be upgraded to as many as 6 additional video inputs in conjunction with the optional NAV-TV SVS6 smart video switcher.
- Allows either the rear view camera or additional video input to be displayed at will, in any gear and at any speed.
- Provides three 12 volt power outputs to power an aftermarket camera* and other peripherals or optional equipment. (12 volt accessory output, 12 volt output upon reverse and 12 volt output upon Video 2 activation)
- METRIS PKG (SKU # NTV-KIT719): For Metris Vehicles Without a Factory Rear View Camera. Package Includes an Aftermarket Rear View Camera
- Includes a High-Quality CMOS Rear View Camera
- Allows an aftermarket camera to be viewed on the factory color LCD screen automatically while in reverse
- Adds an additional video input that can be activated in any gear (other than reverse) for use with an optional front view, side view, night vision, interior camera or external entertainment source.
- Can be upgraded to as many as 6 additional video inputs in conjunction with the optional NAV-TV SVS6 smart video switcher.
- Allows either the rear view camera or additional video input to be displayed at will, in any gear and at any speed.
- Provides three 12 volt power outputs to power an aftermarket camera and other peripherals or optional equipment. (12 volt accessory output, 12 volt output upon reverse and 12 volt output upon Video 2 activation)
- METRIS F-CAM (NTV-KIT714): For Metris Vehicles With a Factory Rear View Camera.

- Includes a video converter to ensure compatibility with all NTSC composite cameras and other video sources.
- Retains the factory rear view camera functionality while in reverse
- Can be upgraded to as many as 6 additional video inputs in conjunction with the optional NAV-TV SVS6 smart video switcher.
- Allows the additional video input to be displayed at will and at any speed.
- Provides three 12 volt power outputs to power an aftermarket camera* and other peripherals or optional equipment. (12 volt accessory output, 12 volt output upon reverse and 12 volt output upon Video 2 activation)
