Alpine Electronics introduced at CES a vehicle-specific sound system for late model GM trucks (full-sized) using its unique ‘wall subwoofer.’
The PSS-31GM upgrades the truck’s speakers from 2-way to 3-way models using direct fit components and it adds an Alpine wall mounted subwoofer that takes up virtually no usable truck space. It also adds a 5-channel amplifier.
The system comes in two parts. The first part includes 8-inch woofers (for the front doors), 6.5-inch coaxial speakers (for the rear doors) and 3-inch midrange speakers plus 1-inch tweeters (installed on the dash) – all using the factory speaker locations. It’s called the SPT-31GM, slated for shipping this month at $1,050 approximate suggested retail price.
It is joined by a 10-inch “Zero Space” subwoofer assembly that comes with a specifically tuned enclosure for 2014-up GM trucks. It attaches to the wall behind the rear seat.
It’s tuned for deep bass and creates low-frequency extension by coupling the enclosure to the cabin vents behind the seat.
The full system, including the PSS-31GM ships in January at a suggested retail price of approximately $2,350.
