Vizualogic is shipping a new headrest system with removable 7 inch tablets.
The VRT 7 system includes custom headrests with full function Android tablets that lodge securely in the headrests and then flip open to reveal DVD players in the headrests.
When used as portables, the tablets have a 5 hour battery life. They include built-in WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and fast quad core processors. They run Jellybean 4.2.2 and will soon be upgraded to Android 5.1.
The tablets use capacitive screens with 1280 x 800 resolution, which Vizualogic says is the highest in the industry in a headrest system.
Users can download Google apps and load movies or stream movies with a 4G connection, as well as play DVDs when the tablet is docked. The headrests also charge the tablets.
When the tablets are docked they lock in place for safety, so they remain fixed even if the car stops short.
The system now comes with controls on the front of the headrest for easy access including an IR port, USB and audio jack.
The tablets come in two versions: 8GB of storage with 1GHz of RAM or 16GB and 2GHz of RAM.
Systems with two tablets and headrests start at $2,295 and also include two wired headphones, two IR headphones, chargers, covers and carrying cases.
