A charter meeting of the first 12 volt distributor group called the Mobile Electronics Distributor Merchandising Alliance (MED) will be held in Irving, TX on May 7. The meeting will be attended by MED Distributors.
It is expected to be followed by a second meeting this summer that will include car audio suppliers.
As of mid February, MED had signed up 10 distributors with roughly $100 million in buying power. Principal Ray Windsor said the group now has distributors representing most of the US although a few territories remain open.
MED aims to streamline the distributor buying process, and improve the relationship between distributors and suppliers, which should help reduce discounting, especially end of the month discounting that erodes profits for all parties including retailers.
The charter meeting will establish an MED mission statement and bylaws and distributors will define core product categories, strategies for pursuing new categories, vendor priorities and invitation strategy, code of conduct for MED distributors, immediate MED action priorities and mid-term issues to be pursued by MED. The meeting will be held at the Dallas/Ft. Worth DoubleTree Irving North.
