Mobileye has teamed with Brandmotion, to link Mobileye’s driver safety system to Brandmotion’s replacement rear-view mirrors with embedded screens.
The companies showed a proof-of-concept solution at the SEMA show last month, with a Brandmotion Infinity mirror that displayed all the visual alerts provided by Mobileye’s early crash warning and lane departure warning system.
The Infinity mirror has a sleek form factor without a mirror bezel. Audible alerts would continue to issue through the Mobileye’s camera.
If the customer already owns a Mobileye ME560 early crash warning system, he can purchase the mirror separately.
The mirror is expected to sell mainly through the expeditor channel (which sells to car dealerships) and the mirror will help provide a “more OEM appearance for the Mobileye product,” said Mobileye’s Steve Wenger.
The system is expected to be available in the first half of 2015.
The Mobileye 560, currently available, warns a driver if he’s approaching the car ahead too fast. It uses a smart camera and algorithms to detect an imminent crash and other hazards. It also offers lane departure warning and other features at $849.
