JVCKenwood reduced its losses for the first half of its fiscal year and said it expects to swing to profitability for the full year which ends in March 2015.
Sales for the first half fell to $1.17 billion (135.4 billion yen) compared to $1.28 billion (148.4 billion yen) a year ago.
Net income was negative $26 million compared to negative $44 million a year ago.
The company indicated that consumer electronics sales in North America were even with last year.
Some of the losses were due to restructuring and higher taxes, it said.
For the full year, JVCKenwood predicts sales of $2.6 billion and net income of $432,000. Last year, the company lost $57 million in net income on sales of $2.7 billion.
