Clarion announced delivery of a new connected navigation radio that uses an advanced voice feature powered by Google. Clarion says it is the only aftermarket company to have a contracted agreement on voice capability with Google.

The result is its new NX604 radio has arguably the most powerful voice search engine of any aftermarket radio, said Clarion.

The NX604  can recognize naturally spoken sentences.  So users can say  “I’m in the mood for waffles” and it will recommend restaurants serving waffles. It reduces the need to scroll through menus to control the system.

Clarion began working with Google to develop the system last summer with the aim of ending drivers’ frustration with voice recognition.

The double DIN NX604 also offers HDMI and it connects to Clarion’s cloud server for linking with Android and iPhone apps.

VP Marketing and Product Planning Allen Gharapetian said, “When developing the NX604, Clarion spent countless hours researching and fine-tuning the system’s user interface based on consumer expectations of what it takes to extend their mobile lifestyle into their vehicle. ”

The NX604 has 6.2-inchWVGA touch screen, full USB connectivity, HD Radio, Bluetooth, DVD/CD and is satellite radio ready. It also features a 6-channel RCA audio outputs and rear zone entertainment allowing passengers to watch DVDs on the rear seat monitors while the driver can access apps and information in front.

Built-in navigation uses iGo Primo maps with more than 11 million points of interest, nearly 20 percent more than what most competitor systems offer, said Clarion.

Suggested retail price is $1099.
