Amazon introduced today its Fire super-featured smartphone with the ability to ‘shoot and shop.’

Using the camera,  the phone can recognize books, bar codes, QR codes, DVDs and more. It also recognizes phone numbers, street signs and email addresses.

It acts like Shazam, to recognize music, movies, TV shows and even art.

Then it pulls up purchasing details on the item.

At launch it recognizes over 100 million items.

Amazon said the feature is “addictive and an absolute breakthrough.”

The phone has a 3D screen that changes perspective as you move it around.  If you are looking at women’s dresses, you can tilt the phone around to get different views. In some cases images look like they are “sticking out of the phone,” according to Engadget’s live account of the Amazon press conference Wednesday.

The phone may also be used in the car or in the dark, as Amazon added IR light for each of 4 cameras for better illumination.

The Fire has a quad-core, 2.2GHz processor and 2GB of RAM along with a 4.7 inch HD display.

The 32GB version of the phone ships July 25 at $199 with a 2-year AT&T contract.  The 64GB version is $299.  Prices include 12 months of Amazon Prime service.
