Metra Electronics is shipping new in-dash tablet and phone kits that use the extra “pocket” remaining when you install a single DIN radio in a double DIN opening.
Usually, a little storage shelf installs below the radio to take up the extra space. Metra is putting that pocket to use with a single DIN docking stand for a tablet or phone.
It uses a two piece system first shown at CES in January. Part one is the in-dash insert with a gash in the middle to dock with a tablet or phone. Part two is a sleeve that fits over the tablet or phone and adds a kickstand that docks into part one so that your phone or tablet is held securely where it is easy to see and use in the dash.
The kit charges the device and has an aux in jack.
Each kit includes: pocket, tablet/phone mount, ATC fuse holder, and 5-amp ATC fuse.
