CRUX Interfacing introduced a new module that provides a wireless WiFi based video connection to a factory radio so you can mirror what’s on your phone onto the car radio screen without wireless.
The device is a WiFi module plus a plug and play T-harness that works specifically with Toyota 2012-2014 vehicles and Scion 2014 cars. CRUX is planning to support other vehicles in the future.
“It creates a WiFi signal in the car so any content on your smartphone will go direction to your factory radio,” said CRUX’s Mike Beyersdoerfer. “It mirrors anything on an iPhone or Android [device], even iPhone 4 or iPad 2. It’s a little box hidden in your console or glovebox, while your phone is somewhere in the car.” It mirrors Google Maps from your phone onto the car radio screen, for example.
He claims the picture quality is 50 percent better than a typical wired connection from the phone to the car radio screen.
The interface is the CRUX WVITY-01 wireless video in motion system at a street price of $319.
