Tablet shipments (global) grew by just under 4 percent for the first quarter, according to IDC, which predicts “an even more challenging year ahead for the category.”
Last year at this time, tablet sales grew 142 percent for the quarter over the previous year, according to IDC.
Consumers are holding onto their existing tablets longer and smartphones are now available with larger screens; two trends that are impacting tablet sales.
Amazon saw the steepest fall in sales in Q1, with a 47 percent drop compared to the same quarter a year ago.
