A leading car stereo shop, Avenue Sound in Patchogue, NY experienced the unthinkable last week, when a local man drove a car literally through the door and front window of the shop.
The man, Michael Nash, 20, was in a high speed chase by the police when he couldn’t quite make the turn at the intersection in front of Avenue Sound and wound up plowing through the shop where Vikas Moolchandani General Manager, and Shawn Breen were helping some customers.
Fortunately, no one was injured, but the store is left with a lot of structural damage, and a loss of about $150 to $200 thousand in inventory.
Last Tuesday, “around 2:45 a car came flying down the street and came right through the door…We saw it coming down the street and heard some noises and sirens. The car was literally coming through the door and I just ran,” said Moolchandani.
The 2-store Avenue Sound is a member of the buying group Mobile Electronics Specialists of America (MESA).
The driver was chased after allegedly stealing an SUV.
“We were handing the customers their keys; we had just done a navigation, amp and box, and at that moment, the car came crashing in… a part of the wreckage was behind the counter,” where Moolchandani had been standing moments before, he said, adding, he was grateful that he and his co-worker and customers were unharmed.
The store was closed for two days and has re-opened with customers using a side door. It is already undergoing repairs.
