Startup  App-Tronics   is shipping a rear view replacement mirror with state of the art features such as a built-in capacitive 5-inch HD screen—one of the largest on the market.

The company was launched by a former manager at a BMW dealers in Ohio, who specifically developed the product over the past two years, so it would be welcomed by car dealers and easy to sell by expediters.

“A lot of retailers think that car dealerships aren’t approachable, but they are if you have the right product and that’s what I’m giving the retailers,” said Mark Tierno.

The SmartNav 5 mirror works with a backup camera and iGO navigation. A front-facing digital video recorder is also built into the mirror housing.  The camera is always recording to document vandalism and other uses.

The mirror is smaller than a standard sized mirror, measuring less than 1.5 inches thick, 3 inches high and about 11 inches long.  It is the only replacement mirror using the Bluetooth 4.0 low power consumption standard, said App-Tronics.

“It’s the universal answer to cars that are less featured, without being invasive to the car.  And we match the car’s warranty, which is 5 years.  It’s exactly what the dealerships are looking for,” Tierno claimed.

The mirror also works with an optional radar detector and laser diffuser.

It began shipping about a month ago and will be sold through Audio Express and other retailers.  The SmartNav 5 was first shown at SEMA late last year.
