Harman is launching new, real time, audio analyzing software that returns a truer audio signal to compressed music.

Called Signal Doctor, it will be used  in “Harman-branded” audio systems starting this year.  Harman claims that unlike current bass boost systems, the Signal Doctor is “not a gimmick.”

It uses scientific probability algorithms to restore, in real time, what was lost in compression. It does this through a “predictive model” or predicting the content lost in compression. In a typical compressed file, like an MP3, 90 percent of the original recording can be lost, said Harman.

Signal Doctor removes unwanted echoes and distortion, it improves vocal clarity, restores treble clarity and detail and gives you a wider sound stage.  It also has a more natural reverb.

It will also be available in JBL home audio Authentic Audio speakers and may be introduced as an app in the future.
