Audiovox Electronics (now VOXX Electronics) announced it will offer a WiFi hotspot “eHub” with a built-in DVD player this June that will allow drivers and passengers to connect their WiFi devices to the Internet in the car.
The eHub can also stream video from the DVD player or content on a USB that you plug into the device to the kid’s tablets or other devices. It also includes built-in Bluetooth and is part of what VOXX considers the next generation of rear seat entertainment in the car. Expected retail price is $699.
VOXX also announced it will ship in February two tablets for back seat entertainment under the Audiovox brand.
A 7- and 8-inch tablet will be offered, each running Android Jelly Bean 4.1 with speakers in the front so they are aimed at the user when mounted behind the front seat.
The tablets connect to the Google Play store and have HDMI and micro SD card slots. They include preloaded popular apps and run on a 1.5GHz processor. They also have built-in WiFi, and front and rear cameras plus 1GB of RAM and 8GB of memory.
The 8 inch T852 includes Bluetooth at $219.99. The 7 inch T752 is priced at $159.99.
These are joined by an 8-inch tablet with a detachable mounting system for the car that also charges the tablet and plays back audio through the sound system using a wireless FM modulator. It will ship in March at $299.99.
There’s also a separate mounting bracket system for both iOS and Android tablets in the car. The “Quick Connect” system mounts in any headrest with posts. It also charges the tablet via a USB port at $99.99 with March delivery.
