Popular Retailer Succumbs to Leukemia

Lance Putnam, owner of the car audio shop Audio Center near Lexington, KY, and award-winning industry member, passed over the weekend at age 40 after  seven arduous months of battling Acute Leukemia.

Lance was an active member of the Board of Directors of the  Mobile Electronics Retailers Association (MERA) and was well-loved by industry members for his devotion to the industry, hard work, and genuine humility and kindness.

In 2011, he was awarded Avidworx’ “Pay it Forward” prize for his passion for and dedication to the industry. He also received a special “Mobile Electronics Contributor of the Year” award from MERA this summer for his devotion to the industry.

Lance is survived by his wife Jenny, his son Sawyer (7) and daughter Sydney (6).

  1. This is such tragic news to learn. Lance was a stellar guy and a genuine, passionate, specialty retailer, who clearly understood the critical balance of delivering good value to his customers and doing what was best for his business. He also realized that the having a proper mix of “pull” and “push” lines was integral to being successful in today’s challenging business environment. Always enjoyed every minute that we spent together. He flat-out “got-it” and was a real pleasure to have known. I am so very saddened to hear of his passing.
    We have lost one of our best and brightest and he will be greatly missed.
