New Smartphone Heads Up Display in Works

NeXt HeadsUP

A start up called NeXt is raising funds for an aftermarket heads up display that would control your phone apps.

The company has launched a campaign on crowd source fundraising site, Indiegogo for its HeadsUP! Device—an 11 inch screen that projects a smartphone’s display onto the car windshield.  The system uses voice commands and gestures so you don’t have to touch the phone.  Users can respond to email, navigate, perform searches and make calls handsfree.

Users connect the 11 inch display module to the phone (via USB or Bluetooth).  Then there’s an app that lets you preset which functions to permit while driving.

NeXt hopes to raise $50,000 to launch the HeadsUP! device at $299 for early investors or $399 thereafter.  It’s pricier than the Garmin HUD system that launched in July at $129 plus $29 for the app, but it has more functionality.

The projected launch date for the NeXt HeadsUP! is August 2014.

  1. Combine HUD of the smartphone screen along with intelligent voice command and verbal feedback and you now have as close to a perfect solution to in car connectivity as you are likely to find.
