General Motors has asked its thousands of dealers to create in-store connected car centers that resemble Apple’s Genius bar.

The idea is to create a place where customers can return after the sale to learn more about their connected car radios, especially as GM is about to roll out embedded 4G LTE modems in most of its 2015 model years cars.

The Detroit News reported that GM sent out a letter to all 4,000+ Chevy, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers asking them to create the centers.  And it is requiring that the dealers have on hand at least one certified tech expert who can help customers pair a smartphone to the car radio and perform other connectivity functions.

Some of the dealers are setting up tables with tablets for technology demos.  Some are even holding consumer classes.
