Sony is replacing one of its of MirrorLink radios (that mirror and control apps on a Smartphone) this October with a new version that adds advanced voice control.

With the new XAV-602BT you can command the radio by voice to switch between music sources, navigation and apps without touching the radio screen.

The feature can also read aloud texts. And it controls Twitter updates and RSS feed information.

The new radio with 6.1 color touch screen also now works with an optional navigation module with TomTom maps called the XA-NV300T at $249.

The XAV-602 replaces the XAV-601, Sony’s first MirrorLink radio.  Like its predecessor, it offers MirrorLink and it includes Pandora control plus it has Sony’s App Remote feature, now upgraded to AppRemote2 to add the new voice capability.

App Remote lets a phone or tablet control your radio, becoming a touch screen remote for your radio or it lets the radio control the phone or tablet, including launching apps.  And with Android phones, if you receive a text, it can be read back to you via the car’s speakers.

The new 602BT will carry a street price of $549.99.

It also includes Bluetooth, DVD/CD player and SiriusXM capability.
