Boat season is just getting started, but some indicators bode well for marine audio this year.

New power boat sales are starting to pick up for the first time since the recession, says the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA).

Sales of new power boats rose an estimated 10 percent in 2012 and “early indications are showing the industry will see additional growth in 2013 by as much as 5-10 percent,” said an NMMA spokesperson.

The trend should continue through 2016, rising at an annual rate of 8.8 percent.

Clarion and Alpine said the forecasts are encouraging for marine audio.

Alpine Electronics’ Steve Crawford noted, “Based on feedback from our retailers and distributors, we anticipate favorable projections for the marine market for the next three years.  We are in the process of obtaining and analyzing further data to help shape our marine plans.”

Boss Audio said its marine audio sales were up by triple digits in 2012 over the year prior.
