MTX Audio announced it is now shipping the new 55 Series subwoofers, originally debuted at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show.
The subwoofers incorporate MTX’s Spider Plateau Venting technology that mechanically targets cool air at the voice coil resulting in increased reliability and performance as well as Asymmetrical Linear Drive System which controls the linear movement of the subwoofer reducing distortion.
It also uses a new Inverted Apex Surround that provides three clear benefits. First, the surround now takes up a smaller area thereby increasing the surface area resulting in greater air movement and subsequently higher SPL. Second the progressive suspension helps control the woofer at high excursion, reducing 3rd order distortion at high power levels. Third, the new surround design delivers uniform motion of the woofer in both the inward and outward movement that reduces 2nd order distortion. Finally, the 55 series is designed with a bumped t-yoke heat sink that helps dissipate heat away from the voice coil helping to reduce distortion. The result of these design changes is a high output subwoofer with excellent sound quality.

55 Series subwoofers are available in 15″, 12″, and 10″ sizes, in both dual 2Ω and dual 4Ω configurations:
