We’ve just barely got the knack of syncing a smartphone to a car screen. Soon we may want to sync a smartwatch to a car deck.
Both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal say Apple is developing a watch device made of curved glass that would run on the Apple iOS.
However, the watch is reportedly in the “experimental” stage, so there’s no guarantee it would reach the market.
Although The Wall Street Journal said that Apple has discussed the watch with its key manufacturing partner Hon Hai (Foxconn).
The Apple “iWatch” has invited much speculation. Some of the more interesting musings come from the blog of an ex-Apple employee Bruze Tognazzini, who believes Apple has already set up an iWatch task force.
First, he notes that watches to date haven’t been popular because they were too big and required charging. Plus they couldn’t be easily read at night. And, they had complicated menus.
He suggests an iWatch wouldn’t need menus because it could use Siri. You could just talk to your watch and say things like “Set timer for 22 minutes” or “Wake me at 6:15.”
He said a key function of the watch might be to eliminate passcodes, and said he’d buy one just so he doesn’t have to enter 20 passcodes a day.
It might also include Near Field Communications (NFC) to permit wireless, automatic payments and even temperature control of your house. “The NFC chip belongs in the iWatch, not in the iPhone! That way we’ll know exactly where it is at all times, strapped to the end of an appendage expressly designed to be waved around at things. How handy! Reach. Touch. Done.”
Pictured above is the Pebble watch that was shown at CES and is just now shipping at $150. It’s like a caller ID device for the web. It alerts users to emails and Facebook or Twitter updates as well as caller ID information. It’s battery life lasts about a week.
