Pioneer’s Model by Model Chart for iPhone 5 Compatibility

As promised, Pioneer—the first car audio supplier to control iPhone 5 video from a car radio– gave a model by model run down of which of its car radios are compatible with iPhone 5.

13 Pioneer car radios work with the iPhone 5 including 9 new models for 2013 and 4 models from last year.  Last year’s models include the AppRadio 2 (the car radio designed to let the iPhone be the hub of the radio), as well as two navigation radios and the top DVD receiver.

To achieve this, Pioneer announced at CES three kits  (either $50 or $100) that will also be required.

Pioneer’s $50 HDMI kit gives you an all-digital connection to the AppRadio 2, AVH-X8500BHS, AVIC-Z150BH and AVIC-X950BH.  The kit includes a 2-meter automotive grade HDMI cable, and a 1.5-meter 17-pin to USB cable for charging iPhone 5.  You will also need an Apple Lightning to USB Cable and Lightning Digital AV Adapter, as well as a firmware update from Pioneer (available this spring at no charge).  The kit, model CD-IH202, will be available in March.

Then there are two $100 VGA kits—one works with 2013 multimedia DVD receivers and the 2012 DVD/receiver, the AVH-P8400BH.  The other works with the AVIC-X850BT and 2012 in-dash navigation receivers.  The kits, models CD-IV202AV and CD-IV202NAVI, respectively, also ship in March.
