A prototype true 3D backup camera display is on view at CES by QNX for OEM use.
The QNX dash display is able to show a 3D autoscopic image (without the need for 3D glasses) to show objects behind the car, which helps drivers gauge the distance of the objects from the car.
To achieve the stereoscopic effect, the system delivers separate images to each eye. It is shown in a Bentley continental GT convertible at CES.
The QNX concept car also has a unique curved 17 inch display to show infotainment and heating/cooling controls. The screen is powered by a mini DLP rear-view projector from Texas Instruments, which also uses IR and cameras to detect touch control. This allows a much more flexible user interface, as well as the sexier curved display.
The prototype car is also the first to include built-in Shazam (the app that identifies song titles and artists).
The system even offers video conferencing and natural voice recognition based on AT&T “Watson” processing engine.
