After attracting 22 million shoppers on Thanksgiving day, Walmart drew record crowds to some of its Black Friday special events.
It held special events at 8 p.m., 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. And it offered its first one-hour guarantee (that items would not be out of stock) on key electronics items.
It processed nearly 10 million register transactions in the period from 8 p.m. through midnight, a rate of almost 5,000 items per second.
At 10 p.m event, the focus was on electronics including big-screen TVs, tablets, laptops and digital cameras.
During the 8 p.m. event, consumers stocked up on gaming consoles, video games, DVDs, Furbys, fashion dolls, board games and Crock-Pots, Walmart said.
From the time events began at 8 p.m., Walmart sold more than 1.3 million televisions.
