MODESTO, CA–ARPA of America announced that Zapco is now shipping the first of several new amplifier lines, marking the company’s “return” to the market.
“The Z-series”, says Zapco’s John Borges, “is best described as an experiment that went very right. We took a close look at how we were achieving the sonic goals of our products and began to wonder if we had tapped out the gains of seeking better and better numbers. So this time we spent more time listening to the amps to see what affect different combinations of internal parts had on the sonic qualities of the amps. The result was the same basic amp design with some board changes to create a more direct signal path and a better combination of op-amps, output devices and other internals. The sound? More solid on the bass, more open in the mids and highs and more definition everywhere
“Our little experiment”, says .Borges, “has produced what everyone who’s listened to them says are the best sounding amps we have ever offered. It’s pretty cool when you take a slightly different road and it works so well on every level.”
Shipping now is the Z and ZX series. The series are similar but the ZX adds extra power. The ZX A/B amps are 1 ohm stable, so either the 200W/ch 4-channel, or the 500W/ch 2-channel, may be bridged to 2,000 watts RMS. The Class D amps in the ZX-Series start at 6,500 watts and cap with a 20,000W RMS amp that will give you short term bursts to 26,000 watts (and weighs over 100 pounds).
The Z line starts at 150W RMS/ch in 2, 4, or 6 channels accompanied by a 400W RMS/ch 2-Channel model. For dedicated bass, it also includes Class D Mono amps.
“Since its founding in 1974, Zapco has constantly sought more effective ways to make the car sound like the concert stage. For almost 40 years, through market changes, personnel changes, and technology changes, the core remains…It’s all about the music,” Borges said.
