Google is expected to hop into the tablet market this week with a $199 device that is co-branded with Asustek Computer.
The 7-inch tablet, running Android, of course, will make its debut during Google’s developer’s conference, which starts today, reports Bloomberg.
Sales of tablets in general are forecast to double this year to almost 119 million units, according to Gartner. Apple’s iPad, however, will remain the market leader through at least 2016, with 61 percent market share this year, dropping to 46 percent by 2016, Gartner said.
Google’s decision to put its brand name on a tablet follows Microsoft’s announced entry into the market with a larger 10.6-inch “Surface” tablet due this fall.
