Almost 80 percent of smartphone owners use apps in the car, according to a recent study by Harris Interactive on behalf of Pioneer.
The top 3 most used apps are maps and navigation (56 percent), music (31 percent) and social networking (24 percent).
Pioneer also announced Wednesday that its Android kit for the AppRadio2 is now available. The $119 cable kit lets the AppRadio2 work with 15 models of Android phones, in addition to working with the iPhone.
The AppRadio 2 ($499) is an in-dash control station, much like a speaker dock for a smartphone, only for the car. It can control select apps, and music from both Android phones and the iPhone, while displaying song information and art and app info on a 7-inch capacitive touch screen.
