Some industry watchers believe Google will offer a 7-inch tablet in coming months, and a report now says Google has partnered with Asustek to produce a $199 device that may ship around June.
The Android device will be a Google Nexus model that goes into production in April, reports Taiwan-based news source DigiTimes.
DigiTimes has a rocky track record of predicting new products. It has been claiming a 7-inch iPad is imminent for years.
If the report proves true, the Google tablet, at a sub $200 price point, would drive down margins for tablet vendors in general, including Amazon.
The Boy Genius Report speculates the device might makes its debut at Google’s annual I/O conference on June 27.
