True to its word, Sirius XM made the Android-based Lynx 2.0 portable receiver available by the end of 2011, although, initially, it’s offered only through crutchfield.com and shop.siriusxm.com, with other stores to follow “soon.”

At $249, the Lynx is billed as part DVR and part satellite radio receiver.  Although it’s a portable, it may be used with an optional dock in the car.

Lynx will automatically record up to 200 hours of SiriusXM programming from favorite channels, so the device is loaded up when you leave the house.

When connected to WiFi, it lets you browse through up to 5 hours of past recording.

It has a touch screen, so you can tap through menus and listen to one station while you view what’s playing on other stations.

With the LV1 car kit, the device will automatically start playing songs from the beginning so you hear the full song when you tune into any sat radio station in your favorites list.  Users may also see what’s playing over the next 7 days on the electronic program guide and set up alerts.

The car kit has a rotary control knob.  It can link to the car radio over Bluetooth but it also comes with an aux-in cable.  Another connecting option is through a SiriusXM PowerConnect transmitter.  The car kit also charges the Lynx and is available at $69.99.

Lynx also permits access to extra SiriusXM 2.0 channels including Latino stations and it’s fully updatable via WiFi for future upgrades.
