Aftermarket Car Audio/Video Up 3 Percent: NPD

Car audio/video aftermarket sales for the year through October were up 3 percent in dollars, according to The NPD Group, which tracks sales to consumers.

While dollar sales were up, unit sales were actually down by 3 percent.  The  figure does NOT include sales of portable navigation devices (PNDs) but it DOES include sales of in-dash navigation as well as traditional car audio, mobile video and satellite radio.

NPD logoCar in-dash head units of all kinds were down by 3 percent in dollars and up by 6 percent in unit sales.

The bright spots in the market were car amplifier and car speaker sales, which were up in dollars and units.

Amplifier sales for the year through October climbed 6 percent in dollars and 8 percent in units.  Speaker sales rose 5 percent in dollars and 9 percent in units, said The NPD Group.
